Our Projects

JBU's Intellectual Virtues Program mission is to foster and cultivate intellectual virtue in the lives of students and faculty on JBU's campus and to be a light for Christian virtue education to the world. The program hosts and supports a variety of activities in support of those aims.

Communities of Practice

One of the Program’s primary activities is to form communities of practice within each of JBU’s colleges to discuss intellectual virtues education and revise curriculum. Discussion groups meet monthly and are led by Program Fellows.

Curriculum Revisions

We encourage faculty members who participate in our communities of practice and summer trainings to consider how they can make changes to their teaching pedagogy and revisions to courses within their disciplines.

Summer Pedagogy Training

In the summers of 2023 and 2024, the Program will be sponsoring a week-long virtues pedagogy seminar with Professor Nathan King. Dr. King is a well-respected teacher and author of The Excellent Mind.

Student Events

In conjunction with the Center for Faith & Flourishing, the Program hosts an annual campus-wide lecture or debate as well as other student events focusing on the intellectual virtues.

Faculty Research

The Program sponsors faculty to attend conferences and seminars on the intellectual virtues, as well as hosting an annual faculty development talk open to all faculty.

Teaching Awards

We want to recognize and honor JBU faculty and teachers who are enthusiastic about bringing the intellectual virtues to life within their classrooms with an annual teaching award.

Student Clubs

The program staff and student fellows work with student clubs across campus to provide content and resources for discussing the intellectual virtues.
